I was wondering if I could get a ballpark value of above rifle. Serial # is 96xxx. It looks to be the original finish on wood. It is chambered in 30-30 has the delicate schnoble forend, perchbelly stock, classic metal butt plate, and a 26' octagonal barrel. The sights are marble ivory bead on front and rear sight says marble on it also. It looks like an old gun. Bluing is wore in places, but no rust. Gun was my grandfathers and he use to hunt dear with it. My uncle gave it to me so there's noway I'd sell it for sentimental reasons. I was more curious as to whether I should put gun in gun safe or just use it to hunt. I see there is a model 1899 on gunbroker that is in similar shape with a 14xxx serial # that has a 'buy now' price of $850, but it has a different barrel, sights, and is chambered for a different cartridge. I appreciate any help.
Made in 1907. German silver Rocky Mountain blade front sight and elevation adjustable sporting rear sight on the Hi-Pressure Steel barrel and a King flip-up short range peep sight mounted to the upper tang of the receiver, which is also fitted with a bolt-mounted firing pin indicator, rotating cartridge counter and sliding safety switch. Smooth straight wrist stock, with a Schnabel tip forearm. Does the rifle have a cylindrical barrel, half-octagon barrel, or a full octagon barrel? Barrel length? This makes a huge difference in value. A Model 1899 in exc. Condition with a full-octagon barrel in.303 Savage can book up to about $3500. (My dad has one.) You need to narrow it down further. Also, what's the condition?
